Celebrating Another Wonderful Year at the Danforth East Arts Fair

This past weekend marked another inspiring year at the Danforth East Arts Fair—an event close to my heart. For 15 years I’ve been involved in so many capacities—from running the fair for several years to volunteering annually—and every time, I’m reminded why I love it so much.

The fair brings together everything that makes our community special: talented local vendors, familiar neighbours, past clients who stop by to say hello, the delicious food, and an atmosphere brimming with creativity. Year after year, I find myself inspired at the booths, and it’s no surprise that pieces from the fair have been making their way into our design projects for as long as I can remember.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited, participated, and especially to the vendors who return year after year—it’s your passion that makes this fair such a success.

This year, we were thrilled to present our annually sponsored MPI+D Design Award to Heritage Felt (@heritagefelt) for her gorgeous felted birch trees and rocks, which so beautifully embody craft and creativity. We already know which projects we are going to recommend these unique pieces for.

And we were equally delighted to celebrate the Rising Star Award winner Rivers Resin (@riversresin)—his work upcycles leftover wood from his family’s carpentry business into beautiful cutting boards, soap dishes (perfect for those shampoo bars), and phone stands. He’s exactly the kind of eco-friendly, entrepreneurial young creative we love to support, and needless to say, his products are on our counters and in our showers already :)

Community, creativity, and connection—that’s what the Arts Fair is all about. I’m already looking forward to next year.

Special Moments with Past Clients

One of the joys of the Arts Fair is bumping into past clients and hearing how their homes are holding up years later. This year, I was thrilled to see the Project Monarch Park family—and couldn’t believe it’s been five years since we completed their home! Hearing their kids proudly say, Our house is still very beautiful,” was the best reminder of why we do what we do.

Their space had been a real challenge: an awkward layout with the front door opening directly into the living room, an off-center fireplace eating up valuable wall space, and no storage to speak of. They needed a family-friendly solution with room for everyone to sit and enjoy time together.

Our design created two distinct seating areas and added a custom built-in storage cabinet at the entry to bring order and flow. Seeing them still enjoying the space five years later was such a rewarding full-circle moment.
