Designing for the home you’re not leaving
Lately, we’re seeing a shift.
Instead of moving, more families are choosing to invest in the home they already have—shaping it into their forever home. Not just beautiful, but tailored, intentional, and designed to truly support their lives.
This bathroom is a perfect example of that mindset in action.
Before:
The Brief: Make It Work (Really Work)
Two pre-teen girls.
One shared bathroom.
Busy schedules. Early mornings. Sports practices.
And a very real need for the space to function seamlessly—every single day.
This wasn’t about a quick refresh.
It was about creating a bathroom that could grow with them, support their routines, and actually make life easier.
Because in a forever home, the goal isn’t just that it looks good.
It’s that it works—effortlessly.
Designed for Real Life (Not Just a Pretty Picture)
This wasn’t about creating a “kid bathroom.”
It was about creating a space that could keep up with changing routines and the pace of a full, busy home.
Each girl needed her own designated storage—a place for everything, and everything in its place (in theory, at least).
So we built it in.
Individual cabinetry gave each of them their own zone. No overlap, no confusion, no “that’s mine” debates. Just clear, considered organization that makes getting out the door faster—and putting things away easier.
Because look’n good is great.
But beauty that functions? That’s where the magic is.
When the Space Doesn’t Cooperate, We Get Clever
The room itself was… tricky. So we adjusted.
An odd footprint that didn’t quite want to behave. Tight in some areas, generous in others, and not quite aligned with standard dimensions. Which meant standard solutions weren’t going to cut it—literally.
So we reworked it.
The soaker tub (a non-negotiable, thanks to two very active athletes needing proper recovery soaks) was custom-cut down to fit the space properly.
Not squeezed in. Not forced. But thoughtfully scaled so the layout could breathe and everything around it could function the way it needed to.
This is where experience matters.
Knowing what can be adapted—and how to do it well—is the difference between “it fits” and it‘s perfect.
Materials That Earn Their Keep
A full slab of terrazzo, custom cut to the space. Durable, forgiving, and visually rich—it handles the reality of daily use while bringing that layered, elevated feel we’re known for.
We paired it with in-floor heating to keep things cozy underfoot—especially appreciated on early mornings—and selected this material specifically because it could accommodate that system beautifully.
It’s not just about selecting something beautiful.
It’s about selecting something that will still look good—and feel good—after years of real life happening on top of it.
The Real Return on Investment
